Focus On : Bus and coach

While their purpose may be ferrying people rather than goods, underneath all of those seats, PSVs (passenger service vehicles) are trucks at heart.

That means that they share the same components: diesel-based drivelines, air brakes and special tyres, to name a few.

As buses traverse mostly urban roads, regulatory pressures on emissions, for example, are even greater than HGVs. That means an increasing interest in alternative fuels and emissions reduction technology.

Still, the sector spans quite a range of vehicle types, from Sprinter van conversions up to three-axle double-deckers, from city-centre tourbuses to long-distance coaches.

One recent trend in coach building is a luxury specification, covering passenger conveniences such as USB charging points and leather seats.
