Sixth Brammer manufacturing awards celebrate innovation 11 October 2012

Industrial maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) products and services specialist Brammer showcased best practice and innovation at its 2012 Manufacturing Forum and Awards, earlier this month (4 October 2012).

More than 150 delegates attended the Manufacturing Forum – held at Rotherham's Magna Science and Adventure Centre – which focused on the delivery of operational performance improvements through optimised maintenance spares procurement and management.

Aaward winners were: Kraft Foods, for sustainable manufacturing; Alcoa, for increased production uptime; Diageo, for reduced maintenance; and Premier Foods, for outstanding achievement in continuous improvement.

In his keynote, Professor Mike Sweeney, emeritus professor of operations management at Cranfield School of Management, discussed the role that manufacturing can play in rebalancing the UK economy and how manufacturing leaders can play a part in delivering this change.

Todd Snelgrove, global manager of value at SKF, hosted a session on Realising the lowest total cost of ownership through strategic procurement, while Sam Folger, Tarmac's materials manager, spoke on a strategic approach to sourcing MRO products and services.

The final speaker of the day was Chris Ditton, programme manager at Tata Steel, who delivered a case study on optimising the value extracted from MRO stores inventory.

In other news, Brammer has signed a three-year sponsorship agreement with The Skills Show, which takes place at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, from 15—17 November.

Thought to be the largest skills and careers event in the UK, celebrating the best in apprenticeships, employer training and further education, the exhibition highlights the importance of skills to economic growth, and will include a range of competitions, 'Have a Go' activities, spotlight features, careers advice and a conference and seminar programme.

Brammer will be attending the exhibition with its Mobile Centre of Excellence, which will showcase the company's product and service offering. Containing interactive demonstration rigs, it enables Brammer to focus on technological innovation and specialist expertise.
