Emerson’s DeltaV v12 improves security and flexibility 12 October 2012

New features added to Emerson Process Management's DeltaV process control system are aimed at increasing flexibility, predictability and security, while reducing complexity and operating costs.

So says Emerson's chief strategic officer Peter Zornio. For him, key features achieving these objectives are: the recently announced expansion of Emerson's electronic marshalling; and combining DeltaV Safety Instrumented System (SIS) with the installation flexibility and space savings of its electronic marshalling technology.

As a result, this new offering greatly simplifies the design, installation, wiring and commissioning of SIS projects, while at the same time increasing capacity and reducing footprint.

The v12 release also includes integrated virtualisation technology, which enables users to consolidate computer resources and reduce implementation and maintenance costs. DeltaV Virtual Studio makes it easier to create virtual DeltaV control systems from templates and pre-configured virtual networks.

And Zornio says that the new v12 release can also allay users' systems security concerns, with Emerson's Smart Firewall allowing them to set up a safe and secure network for the automation system – locking down the network against unauthorised downloads and hack.
