Emerson and Det-Tronics link process safety and asset systems 09 October 2012

An integrated maintenance system that provides a combination view for safety and process management assets has been unveiled by Emerson Process Management and Detector Electronics.

The system comes as a result of Emerson confirms support for Det-Tronics Eagle Quantum Premier fire and gas safety safety system within its AMS Suite.

The pair say that the result will be better streamlined maintenance work, as users are able to monitor both basic process control devices and safety assets from a single station.

This announcement constitutes a significant broadening of scope for the AMS Suite beyond its traditional instrumentation and valves.

Utilising the connection between AMS Suite and Det-Tronics S3 software, users will now be able to view diagnostic information from flame and gas detectors.

Ron Martin, vice president of Emerson's Asset Optimisation and Lifecycle Care Information, explains that information available will include indication of when maintenance activities, such as device calibration or optics cleaning, should be performed.

On clearing these conditions, the S3 software will provide the updated information to AMS Device Manager to update the device history.

"Ensuring safety assets are in good working order when they are needed is critical to protecting the lives and well-being of those in and around customer facilities," states Martin.

"We are committed to expanding the ways we help users make information-based decisions, a commitment we continue to build on."
