Defence Equipment Minister opens new TRaC test site 07 February 2012

Peter Luff, Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology, formally opened TRaC's new Southern Labs in Three Legged Cross, Wimborne, Dorset late last week (2 February 2012).

The company has a long-established presence in Dorset, with existing test sites at nearby Ringwood and Wimborne, but TRaC believes its new site is the most modern test facility in the UK, offering a range of EMC and environmental test services.

The new laboratories bring together all aspects of EMC testing particularly for the aerospace and defence industries, and at the same time expand and improve its commercial EMC and safety testing facilities in the region.

In brief, TRaC has installed three screened chambers dedicated to EMC testing to military and aerospace standards. A further two chambers will then be used to carry out mainly commercial testing, while a sixth chamber has been specially equipped to carry out transient testing.

Other test capabilities on the site cover: lighting; high-intensity radiated fields (HIRF) up to 5,000V/m; and environmental stress testing, including shock and vibration; temperature, humidity and salt-spray; acoustic noise; and hydraulic fatigue testing.

An electromagnetic shaker table can also apply stresses to loads of up to two tonnes.
