Quartzelec expands electrical MRO into new premises 11 November 2013

Electrical engineering group Quartzelec has moved into a modern 31,500 sqft industrial facility at Dinnington, South Yorkshire, that is more than six times larger than its previous building in Sheffield.

Dave Graham, general manager at Quartzelec, explains that the facility already has one 10-ton and two five-ton overhead cranes in its workshops, as well as an extensive and secure storage yard – both prerequisites for heavy electrical motors and plant.

Initially being leased, with the option to purchase, the site, which has 11kV supplies, was previously used as a foundry and has now been fully refitted.

"Our existing premises in Sheffield were acquired back in the 1990s to enable us to service the needs of the metals industry in the region," states Graham.

"However, we've subsequently diversified and built an enviable reputation working with customers in many other sectors, including power generation, petrochemical and water, and so needed more space and facilities," he adds.

Quartzelec majors on design, maintenance, refurbishment, spares and rewind services covering low-voltage and high-voltage electrical motors and generators, as well pumps, gearboxes and associated static plant.

Graham states that the firm can work on any OEM-manufactured machine and equipment, including heritage companies such as GEC Machines, GEC Alsthom Large Machines, ALSTOM and Cegelec.

The new unit is a couple of miles off the M1 at junction 31.
