The Office for Nuclear Regulation and the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales have started a Generic Design Assessment (GDA) for Holtec International’s SMR-300.
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero made the request to the regulators following its readiness review of the Holtec International application.
This review concluded that the design was ready to enter the GDA process.
The GDA assessment will look to explore opportunities to maximise the value of international regulatory collaboration and identify efficiencies in processes.
