WEG opens European drives automation centre 11 June 2014

Drives, inverters, soft starters, servo drives and electric motors specialist WEG has opened a European automation centre at its site in Unna, Germany.

The centre will be home to the firm's European automation specialists and also a new project shop with test stands, a training centre and warehouse space for automation components.

The new centre will be led by both Fábio Gonçalez, the recently appointed EME automation manager and head of the automation centre, and Bernd Kaiser, automation and drive systems manager at WEG Germany.

Klaus Sirrenberg, director low voltage products at WEG Germany, says it brings together WEG's staff, and its expertise from the German HQ in Kerpen, with those of its subsidiary Watt Drive, which focuses on gear technology for lower power levels.

"Establishing the automation centre is a strategic move to increase customer awareness of our automation portfolio in Europe," states Sirrenberg.

"Our goal is to be regarded as a solution provider, and the new automation expertise centre enables us to get even closer to our customers and offer them improved support. I think we're heading in the right direction."
