TÜV SÜD’s Safety Systems Technology goes it alone 30 October 2014

Safety Systems Technology (SST) is to operate as an independent company again, having bought itself out of TÜV SÜD, which acquired the company in 2010 alongside Laidler Associates.

"We are a specialist machinery safety business [and] it's important that we are seen as independent from those businesses that conduct the assessment and certification work," explains Mark Smailes, managing director of SST.

Smailes says that customers will find the transition seamless, with all current still in place and all staff transferred to the newly established company, now headquartered in Halifax.

TÜV SÜD and SST will continue to work closely together and provide customers with an integrated machinery safety solution, if required, he adds.

"We will continue to work with some of the biggest names in industry and lately we have been seeing a great deal of work coming from the engineering sector with machine tool upgrades being particularly busy," comments Smailes.

"I think this is a good sign for the UK manufacturing economy, as it indicates that businesses have a certain amount of capital to invest and that they are expecting their machines to be heavily utilised in the near future."
