Second phase of energy entrepreneurs fund launched today 13 June 2013

Edward Davey, Secretary of State for DECC (the Department of Energy and Climate Change) today (13 June 2013) launched the second phase of its Energy Entrepreneurs Fund.

£19 million has now been allocated, on a competitive and rolling basis, to support innovative projects in energy efficiency, storage and low carbon generation up to a maximum of £1 million completed by 31 March 2015.

"There is a huge amount of innovation across the anaerobic digestion sector, and programmes such as the Energy Entrepreneurs Fund, which support this, are very welcome," says Charlotte Morton, chief executive of ADBA (Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Association).

"New AD technology will help the industry deliver not only a significant contribution to the UK's renewable energy targets, but also bring benefits to sustainable food production, move us closer to a closed-loop economy and help efficient use and treatment of water.," she continues.

"The UK AD market is already contributing hugely to green economic growth, having almost doubled in size in the past year, and, with the right support, has the potential to realise huge export markets in future years."

Of the total £3 5million allocated over the Spending Review period to support the development and demonstration of innovation in energy efficiency, storage and low carbon generation, £16 million has been awarded to entrepreneurs since the first phase in Autumn last year.

The deadline for the first call for applications within this second phase is 12 July.
