To support these young STEM ambassadors, miniature bearing supplier SMB Bearings has donated £500 worth of bearings to give the team competitive rollability and the best chances of winning the world champion title.
The concept of the competition is to design, manufacture, test and race a miniature F1 car that is powered by a CO2 gas cylinder. The team, made up of six girls from Inveralmond Community High School in West Lothian, Scotland, triumphed at the national championships at Silverstone this year, giving them national championship status, and entry to the world final.
“Plans are well underway for our new and improved Singapore car,” explained Chloe Adam, team manager of Velocity Racing. “We’re certainly not resting after our national win as we want to arrive in Singapore with an even more competitive design. Every detail counts and we will not stop until every possible design improvement has been made.
“In particular, we need bearings with very low rolling resistance to make sure friction is kept to an absolute minimum. That’s why we’re grateful to SMB Bearings for supplying this haul of miniature bearings. The company has backed us from the start, even when we were competing in the regional heats, so we really feel that SMB is one of our biggest supporters.”
