New cranes for Babcock’s Rosyth dockyard regeneration 21 November 2013

Efficient and more flexible mechanical handling and lifting are being enabled at the Rosyth Dockyard, following the addition of new overhead travelling cranes (OTCs), built and installed by Street Crane Company.

Eight old overhead cranes have been removed and replaced by 19 high-specification cranes, as part of the upgrade by Babcock, which wil underpin ongoing commercial, marine and offshore projects.

Assembly and fabrication bays have been fitted with multiple heavy-lift cranes, ranging in capacity from 10- to 35-tonnes safe working load.

Installation was completed in September with testing and commissioning through October.

All cranes are of double girder construction, with a combination of Street's advanced ZX hoists and VX custom-built hoists.

"This is a major facilities upgrade programme and we are delighted that our OTCs were selected to meet the demands of this significant project," says Street Crane sales director Chris Lindley-Smith.
