New compressor opens the door to savings at Schlegel 31 March 2015

Doors and window components manufacturer Schlegel Building Products is reporting energy savings of 25% since replacing an ageing compressor with a new Thorite model.

The compressor was installed at the Newton Aycliffe plant in December last year and has since functioned without fault, according to Schlegel engineering manager David Golightly.

"Thorite recommended the HPC compressor, based on an assessment of our requirements, and I have to say it is a brilliant machine," states Golightly.

Downtime due to insufficient air is now a thing of the past, he says, and that is on top of the energy savings, which equate to more than £2,000.00 per year.

"Thorite also now provides ongoing service for the compressor installation, which is resulting in even more savings," adds Golightly.

Schlegel had previously bought three new HPC compressors from Thorite for another site, so it made sense to specify an HPC compressor again.

The model selected was an HPC ASD50 compressor with a capacity of 4.58 m³/min at 7.5 bar (9 bar working pressure), complete with Sigma Control 2 and a variable speed motor.
