New ABB team to tackle larger drive system projects 24 March 2014

Plant managers wanting engineered systems covering machines, transformers and larger variable-speed drives, along with lifecycle services, can now approach ABB's new Drives Solutions team.

David Bates – former director of Dynamotive, which ABB acquired last year – is team leader, and he says it's not just about providing a single point of contact, but also reducing project costs, and integrating products under a single warranty.

"Our forte is engineering complete drive systems for major industries such as oil and gas, metals, and pulp and paper," explains Bates.

"This requires a high level of technical expertise and excellent application know-how, both of which ABB has in abundance."

ABB, he says, can optimise the dimensioning of system components – such as transformers, motors, variable-speed drives and cabling – leading to cost effective, low risk project implementation.

Bates says users can also expect maximum energy savings and shorter payback time, as well as low total lifetime costs.

"ABB understands the challenges in project management [so] we dedicate a project engineer, who is responsible for executing a project within an agreed time, cost and to customer requirements," explains Bates.

The national team, based at ABB's UK headquarters in Daresbury near Warrington, serves users, global OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) and system integrators.
