Fairford energy recovery wins Best Business Innovation Award 28 November 2014

Fairford Electronics has won the title of Best Business Innovation at the South West Green Energy Awards for its iERS intelligent energy recovery system.

The iERS system is claimed to enable up to 32% of total energy to be saved on lightly-loaded electric motors without restricting the motor's function.

Green Energy Award judges cited the technology's design in hugely reducing energy consumption and the fact that it is already being used by major OEMs throughout the world.

The award was announced at as ceremony at the Bath Assembly Rooms, organised by renewable energy champions Regen SW and hosted by performance poet Matt Harvey.

David Taper, technical sales manager at Fairford, who collected the award, said: "This is wonderful news and a great reward for a team that has been working on this technology for a number of years.

"Our focus has always been on innovation and producing a product that has applications in many different industries."

Merlin Hyman, chief executive of Regen SW, added: "The intelligent energy recovery system is real a breakthrough: its unique qualities can save companies a huge amount of energy and a great deal of money in the process."

Most recently, Fairford launched what is claimed to be the world's smallest power-to-size ratio motor controller.

As for Fairford's iERS, the system avoids energy losses by monitoring torque, and reducing the voltage and current supplied to a motor – and hence reducing both energy consumption and losses within the motor.
