EN ISO 14119 machine safety standard comes into force 30 April 2015

The EN ISO 14119:2013 machinery safety standard came into force today (30 April 2015).

'Safety of machinery - Interlocking devices associated with guards - principles for design and selection' replaces EN 1088, with a one year transition period.

EN ISO 14119 considers additional technologies, such as RFID and electromagnetic guard locking.

It also classifies interlocking devices and stipulates more clearly the specifications for installing guards – including with regard to protection against guard manipulation.

Safety switches and safety gate systems have been classified into four types, based on operating principles of the switches, with several coding levels.

The standard also includes installation guides for interlocking devices, including examining manipulation methods, and static and dynamic holding forces.

EN ISO 14119 will replace all relevant national standards worldwide.
