Deguma unveils emergency box 11 August 2023

Deguma emergency box

Deguma has released an emergency box that includes a space blanket and a knife so that mixing mill operators are prepared for emergencies.

Mixing mills are said to be among the most dangerous machines in elastomer processing. Serious injuries from crushing or burns caused by the high processing temperatures require quick action and professional equipment.

The space blanket is expected to withstand high temperatures for long periods of time and insulates the body. The main purpose of the knife is to cut through the material in which a trapped limb or clothing item is caught. Safety equipment also includes crowbars, sterile bags, and heat-resistant leather gloves for rescuers. A flashlight is included to illuminate the accident site.

The heavy-duty aluminium case on four casters is located in close proximity to the mixing mills and is sealed but not locked so that employees can access its contents in an emergency.

The box has an inventory list that shows what is in it and allows users to repurchase any items needed. However, with the exception of the bags, the enclosed products are designed for multiple uses to ensure sustainability. The standard contents of the emergency box can also be expanded to meet individual customer needs.

Sebastian Bein, sales manager at Deguma, said: "After a successful safety consultation and, if necessary, retrofitting, we conduct safety training with our customers. They draw attention to the hazardous areas of the mixing mills and make personnel aware of the proper behaviour in emergency situations. Most of the time, customers want the emergency box for their company after the training.”
