Crown Oil completes power station gas oil removal 02 December 2011

Crown Oil has removed 6.4 million litres of surplus gas oil form Derwent Power Station in Derby, releasing what's being described as "a substantial sum" for the generator in the process. T

Crown Oil general manager Mark Andrews states that the programme began on site in June, and concluded in October, involving 200 tanker movements.

"Following gas tariff changes, there are many power stations and industrial operations throughout the country facing similar problems with bulk back-up fuel that is no longer needed," explains Andrews.

"This fuel will only deteriorate with time and would become a potential environmental threat," he adds. "Fortunately, we can recover this material."

Crown Oil won the Derwent contract, because it was able to offer a better return to the client and demonstrate a capability to do the work without environmental impact – the proof being its recovery last year of 25 million litres of fuel at Medway Power Station in Kent.

Crown Oil is currently removing and safely disposing of final fuel residues, and will next drain the pipework, and clean and degas the tanks ready for re-use.
