Blind instrument maker get Mattei compressor donation 11 April 2011

Rotary vane compressor manufacturer Mattei has offered a helping hand to a worthwhile cause, with the donation of one of its 100 series workshop compressors to a blind musical instrument maker.

The company was approached by 26-year-old Lewis Alexander, who had been forced to sell his workshop equipment to pay for computer equipment to help him in his day-to-day life.

For the past two years Alexander has been restoring his workshop, mainly through donations. He need compressed air is to cool cutters on gun drills and reamers used in the production process.

Alexander required a quiet compressor, as previous machines caused fluorescent lamps in his workshop to pulse. This affects visually impaired students, who rely on consistent light to focus.

Lewis researched compressor manufacturers and identified rotary vane technology as he way to go over the piston compressor he was previously using.

"We were more than happy to support Lewis in his venture and supply a compressor from our100 series range," comments Andy Jones, general manager at Mattei.

"It is great to see Lewis using his knowledge and expertise to help others with visual impairments, as well as keeping the skills of instrument making alive."
