Biogas production safety turns on oxygen analyzer 12 December 2013

A unnamed Scandinavian biogas producer has selected Michell Instruments' analysers to monitor oxygen levels for safety and quality at two sites.

One plant produces biogas from sewage while the other uses food and garden waste – each then providing biogas for use as a transport fuel.

Despite the different feedstocks, the process of treating the gas is the same – refining it to 95% methane, which in turn makes it highly flammable.

A spokesperson for Michell Instruments says its XTP601 thermo-paramagnetic analyser is being used continuously to detect oxygen concentration and shut down the processes if they approach the 4% danger level.
