Amarinth gets $1m pump order for Subsea Well Response Project 07 January 2015

UK heavy-duty centrifugal pumps technologist Amarinth has been appointed by Expro North Sea to deliver $1 million worth of API 610 OH1 pumps for the Subsea Well Response Project (SWRP).

In light of oil spill incidents, such as Macondo in the Gulf of Mexico, oil and gas majors – including BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, Petrobras, Shell, Statoil and Total – are collaborating through the SWRP with specialist Oil Spill Response to develop a global containment toolkit.

Shell is running the project out of its Stavanger, Norway HQ, overseen by representatives on an operating committee comprising.

Although equipment specifications were based on the Shell design and engineering practices, each operator had input to the specification.

Oliver Brigginshaw, managing director of Amarinth, explains that Expro, which was selected to deliver transfer pumps and coolers for the project, chose Amarinth after a three-day material trace audit

The company is now manufacturing 10 of its API 610 OH1 B Series pumps with Plan 53B seal support systems.

The pumps will be mounted three per skid and are designed to fit on the deck of a supply vessel ready for rapid deployment anywhere in the world.

The expectation is that the system will help contain and quickly remove oil from the sea and offload it into tankers for removal from any incident.

The tenth pump will be a maintained as a complete spare so that downtime is minimised should there be a need to swap out a pump at short notice.

SWRP is currently training operators in the use of the equipment in readiness for final commissioning.

"AQs would be expected for such a critical project, the selection and audit process set by the consortium of operators was extremely rigorous, and we are pleased that the quality of our products, service, processes and quality procedures has once again been recognised," comments Brigginshaw.
