AGA puts reliability first with genuine compressor spares 06 September 2013

Range cookers manufacturer AGA Rangemaster says it has maximised compressor performance and longevity at its factory in Leamington Spa by buying genuine spare parts over third party alternatives.

Vic Merulla, maintenance manager at AGA, explains that its original CompAir piston compressors were serviced regularly with genuine spare parts an provided reliable performance for over 20 years.

Then, a decade ago, AGA went for variable-speed compressor technology to help improve energy efficiency, selecting a new package from CompAir comprising two L132 machines, an L75 variable-speed unit together with dryers, filters and an air/water separator.

Again, planned preventive maintenance backed by genuine spares, has seen trouble-free operation, according to Merulla.

"Typically, non-genuine compressor spares and lubricants are cheaper to source than the manufacturer's original parts," agrees Merulla.

"Clearly, all service and maintenance costs need to be factored in to our cost of ownership equations and, when finances are under pressure, it would be easy to choose cheaper alternatives," he continues.

But Merulla says that talking to the service and engineering team at CompAir soon convinced his maintenance team that fitting the wrong spare parts could cause damage to the compressor.

"This won't just result in an expensive repair bill, but will affect our productivity too; so profitability would really suffer," he says.

"As a result, we have always used CompAir genuine parts, fitted by a CompAir-trained service engineer to ensure that our compressors deliver the predictable performance we need."
