McCambridge Foods set mince pies on PIAB pumps14 April 2010

McCambridge Foods reports that strains put on mince pie production at its Blackburn plant, following bumper sales orders, were solved by Thorite, which supplied three additional PIAB vacuum pumps.

The company says that, with the sheer rate of production required, its existing pumps weren't providing adequate vacuum – resulting in batches of pastry casings being pulled out of place or damaged, and exacerbating its problems. .

Clive Halliday, Thorite's process and vacuum manager recommended the installation of PIAB's P6010 Coax Technology pumps, to achieve the triple benefits of a more powerful vacuum, a better 'hold' of the pie casings during production and improved quality control.

"The PIAB P6010 provides up to 40% more flow than conventional vacuum pumps, while still reducing overall energy consumption," explains Halliday.

He also says that its, maintenance-free design makes it ideally suited for automated materials handling. In this case, the pump's compact size also made it possible to mount close to the point of suction, thus reducing compressed-air requirements.
