New Holland turns to Loctite for critical performance 02 October 2012

New Holland's twin rotor technology – which won the firm a Guinness World Record title for combine harvester performance – is using Loctite anaerobic adhesives for critical bolts.

The twin rotor thresher i one of the most stressed components on New Holland's 600hp combine harvesters, and the company is using Loctite 270 threadlocker.

The bolts are hard to access for re-tightening on the finished vehicle, so the company says it chose Henkel's adhesive to ensures they will withstand the extreme vibration caused by the threshing action.

Meanwhile, a central gear drives two 2.5m long thresher rotors and here New Holland engineers used Loctite 638, an anaerobic high-strength adhesive for the shaft hub joints.

And where hydraulics are involved, the engineering team chose Loctite 542 thread sealant to prevent leaks and ensure smooth operation even under harsh conditions.

Henkel is now part of New Holland's in-house employee training centre.
