Twins compete in Semta skills final14 November 2013

Twins Ryan and Liam Moore are set to do battle in a competition to find Britain's brightest engineers.

The 22-year-olds from Plymouth are among more than 100 competitors in 11 engineering disciplines to compete in the WorldSkills UK finals in Birmingham this week (Nov 14-16).

Having left Ridgeway School in Plymouth, the Moore twins started apprenticeships at Pipex which provides design, manufacture and flexible technical support for the supply and installation of composites and thermoplastic products.

They will now be involved in the Construction MetalWork final, managed by Semta – which is responsible for engineering skills for the future – where they will design and construct a crane before exhibiting their work on Saturday when they will find out if they have won.

Liam said: "We are hoping to complete the project and get a little recognition for the hard work we put into it."

Ryan added: "I just want to beat him. It is great to be competitive, I want to pick up some new skills and show what I am capable of. We have always been together at the same school, same classes, same company, same college courses - so that competitiveness will stay with us."

The brothers now have their sights firmly set on winning the competition and the chance to be selected for the WorldSkills team which heads to Sao Paulo in Brazil in 2015.
