TMI renews Shingo contract10 September 2014

The Manufacturing Institute (TMI) in Manchester has renewed its contract to deliver education for companies wanting to achieve the highest levels of excellence, recognised by the prestigious Shingo Prize.

Described as the Nobel Prize of manufacturing, the Shingo Prize was launched as a benchmark in operational and enterprise excellence for global manufacturing businesses.

In 2008, TMI signed up as the Shingo Institute's first international partner and has now worked with 17 global prize and medallion recipients. They include the first European winner, the first Australian recipient, and the first UK winner – Newsprinters in Motherwell.

TMI managing director Mike Price, said: "We are very proud indeed of that track record. Winning Shingo recognition not only means that the rest of the manufacturing world knows that you are the best in the business, but I've also seen the Shingo journey completely transform teams. It also unearths talent and helps entire workforces focus on being the best that they can be.

"Our team all come from a manufacturing background and we come and see how your company works, do benchmark assessments, hold workshops and are with you every step of the way on your Shingo journey."

The latest company to win the Shingo prize is the Newsprinters Eurocentral plant in Motherwell.

George Donaldson, Newsprinters group continuous improvement manager, said. "It's good news for everyone at the site. The printing industry is facing challenges and this award shows that we are the best in the business."

"When a company feels that it is ready to try the Shingo Model, The Manufacturing Institute are the team to bring in. From the gap analysis to workshops, to assessments, Mike Price and the TMI team were a great support both on and off the record. We could ring them at any time to ask for advice. They showed us the way forward."

TMI's 20th anniversary conference, to be held in Cheshire from 30 September 3 to October, will feature speakers from the 17 Shingo recipients.
