Technip selects Fisher valves for Algiers Refinery upgrade 12 April 2013

Technip has selected Emerson Process Management as the main supplier of control valves for the ageing Algiers Refinery rehabilitation and adaptation project.

The refinery, which is 10km south of Algiers, in Algeria, is being revamped to increase crude oil processing capacity and ensure it can produce petrol at specifications similar to those used throughout Europe.

Emerson is to supply some 600 of its Fisher control valves and regulators, including rotary, globe and butterfly type devices, for installation throughout the refinery, including within the residual fluid catalytic cracking unit, naphtha processing units and new LPG storage unit.

"Emerson was selected, because its Fisher valves are proven to provide high levels of accuracy and reliability in demanding refinery applications," states Pascal Marette, senior procurement manager at Technip.

"The level of support offered was also critical. Emerson's local team includes experts with extensive experience of providing solutions to refinery applications," he adds.

Marette says that modernisation of the instrumentation and control valves will help the refinery optimise many of its process units – the goal being to sustain production of clean fuels both for local and export markets, as well as to reduce maintenance and plant shutdown costs.

Fisher valves will be supplied with a range of trims and silencers, along with Emerson's Fieldvue DVC6200 digital valve controller, which incorporates performance diagnostics and the latest HART (version 7) communications.

Emerson is also supplying ValveLink software to work with the existing control system and provide online diagnostics that can help users identify potential problems early.
