Siemens VAI de-scaling plant re-optimised by RMI Pressure Systems 08 November 2013

RMI Pressure Systems has delivered a re-optimised de-scaling system – configured to minimise maintenance but maximise efficiency and operational flexibility – to Siemens VAI for an Italian billet and bloom mill.

Efficient de-scaling equipment requires precise nozzle design, combined with carefully managed water pressures delivered by a reliable high-pressure pumping system.

Because modern steel mills produce an array of steels, all with different pressure requirements, de-scaling equipment also has to be easily and quickly adjustable.

Siemens VAI presented an initial design to RMI, which suggested improvements using the Trimax S250 high-pressure pump.

An RMI spokesperson explains that, by minimising the total number of pumps and associated control gear, while still meeting the required design scope, the final costs of the installation were optimised.

The completed design for Siemens included the pump skids, control systems, interlocks and the de-scale headers.

RMI also shouldered responsibility for performance verification of the completed system and provided engineers on site with assistance during installation and commissioning.
