R22 refrigerant ban forum in final call for delegates 18 April 2013

From midnight on the 31 December 2014, the supply and storage of ozone depleting HCFCs (hydrochlorfluorocarbons), including the widely used R22 refrigerant, will be banned.

Hence the forum being staged by Ergro at the Royal Society of Medicine on London's Wimpole Street on the evening of 23 April 2013 – bringing together manufacturers, property lawyers and business advisers.

Ergro says the event will be run in a relaxed and interactive format, with a panel including: Martin Fahey, of Mitsubishi Electric Living Environmental; Saleem Fazal, of law firm Taylor Wessing LLP; Trevor Lake, of LB Group; and Kevin Groves of Ergro.

Ergro's Chris Wollen says the ban on R22 nd other HCFCs will result in the need to replace or convert the majority of air conditioning units currently installed throughout the country.

"Next year seems a long way off," concedes Wollen, "but look how quickly the Olympics came and went. When the ban hits, it doesn't only mean that R22 refrigerant will be completely unavailable. Also, any equipment that currently runs on R22 will be unserviceable, making for more costly consequences for the future, if people don't plan ahead."
