Pulsonic selects Watson-Marlow for wastewater samplers 31 October 2011

New wastewater sampler systems developed by Halifax-based Pulsonic Technologies are to be equipped with Watson-Marlow 501FDC/RL OEM pumps.

Chosen because the pump's performance could not be matched by equivalent models, the pumps have already helped early sales of Pulsonic's Hydrocell systems, ahead of their official launch later this year.

"With Hydrocell, we wanted to create an entirely new generation of intelligent samplers," explains the company's business development manager Liam Duffy.

"This is a product you instinctively know how to use, because it offers Windows-based functionality, is operated by a simple to use full colour touch screen display and gives full graphical feedback, just like a PC or games console," he adds.

Hydrocell also incorporates intelligent motor technology in the rotor arm, and a logging facility that can record sampling fill sequences, error status etc for a period of up to 20 years.

As for the choice of pump, Duffy says: "We found we simply couldn't get the performance elsewhere, in terms of pump lift capability. A lot of the trade effluent produced by companies, such as food manufacturers, flows through underground drains where the lift often needs to be as much as 7 metres. Normally, an additional pump would be required to accommodate this, but the capability of the Watson-Marlow pump saves this extra cost."

Watson-Marlow's 501FDC/RL OEM pump is made up of a single channel 501RL pump head, a 12V direct current motor, a new Watson-Marlow gearbox and an aluminium faceplate. It provides the highest torque output, pump speeds and flow rates of all Watson-Marlow OEM pumps.

The 501FDC/RL is now being used in both of the Hydrocell models developed by Pulsonic – a cost effective two-bottle system, and a higher specification four-bottle refrigerated unit aimed at preserving effluent containing highly degradable material.
