Print press expansion goes for Boge compressor plant23 February 2011

Johnston Press is reporting good energy efficiency from a new compressed air plant, installed to run its expanded printing centre in County Armagh.

Douglas Meade, factory manager at the printing centre, explains that his team went for two Boge SLF 75 frequency controlled screw compressors along with a Boge S 75 screw compressor for baseline use.

Compressed air powers all printing and pre-press equipment at the County Armagh printing centre, and the M&E contractor had recommended replacing the plant's existing system to meet the increased compressed air demands in the most energy efficient manner possible.

PCM Engineering Belfast, the local authorised Boge distributor, installed the three compressors.

The frequency controlled screw compressors combine a direct-coupled drive system with frequency control to provide good pressure control under variable output. Frequency control minimises idling time and evens out air demand fluctuations.

"We are very pleased with the new compressed air system, which is proving to be very reliable," says Meade. "We are also pleased with the excellent service we have received from PCM Engineering Belfast."
