Litre Meter wants oldest Pelton wheel flow meter 11 June 2010

To celebrate 35 years of manufacturing its Pelton Wheel flowmeter Flow meter manufacturers, Litre Meter is on a mission to find the oldest instrument still in use.

Whoever sends in the oldest meter for repair or recalibration will receive a prize of luxury European weekend break for two with spending money, according to Litre Meter chairman Charles Wemyss.

The meters have seen action in applications ranging from boilers water monitoring to the record breaking steam car and gasoline flow measurement in an automotive fuel injection test rig for Delphi.

Wemyss explains that all instruments is marked with a unique serial number and that the oldest are likely to read xx/x4xxx, xx/x3xxx, xx/x2xxx or xx/x1xxx.

"We are confident of finding many meters still in use that have been running well beyond 20 years," says Wemyss.

"We have already had one candidate: Crown Packaging recently returned a meter for repair that has been in use since February 1986.

"With more than 30,000 meters currently in use there are a lot of people in with a chance. All Pelton Wheel LM & MM meters returned for repair or recalibration before 31 March 2011 are automatically entered," he adds.
