Litre Meter supplies meters for Oakwell chemical injection skid07 December 2011

Litre Meter has shipped 43 positive displacement flowmeters to Oakwell Engineering for measuring wax dispersants and pour point depressants (PPD) on a chemical injection skid for the Al Jalilah field off Dubai.

The flowmeter specialist says its VFF meters measure the flow of chemicals to an accuracy of 0.5%, meaning minimum cost dosing for this application, which is all about ensuring free flow of crude oil.

Litre Meter CEO Charles Wemyss explains that the wax dispersants are used to break up and prevent the reformation of hydrocarbon sludge deposits and to improve fluid flow by reducing viscosity.

Meanwhile, PPDs are used to reduce the viscosity of oil and to maintain flow rate by preventing the build-up of wax at low temperatures.

"Litre Meter's VFF flowmeter is ideally suited for use in the oil and gas industry and, in particular, for low flow and high pressure applications," states Wemyss.

Singapore-based Oakwell says it selected the meters for their versatility and accuracy at the required flow rates and pressures – in this case 10 l/h at 120 bar and 13 l/hr at 190 bar. In addition, Litre Meter was able to deliver instruments with integral head-mounted displays and the appropriate ATEX certification.
