Hose test and maintenance service prevents costly leaks09 June 2011

Eriks UK is now offering an industrial hose testing services either on-site, with the firm's mobile testing teams, or at one of Eriks Hose Technology centres.

Geoff Cox, general manager, hose technology at Eriks, says that the service is not only about saving money through downtime, but also reducing risk of injuries from burst and leaking hoses – as well as contamination, and potentially costly compensation or clean-up operations.

He says the firm has responded to increasing legislation governing the use of hoses and explains that his test teams are equipped to conduct a series of checks.

Those include visual external inspections for signs of wear and abrasion, followed by internal inspection, using endoscopic cameras. The approach checks for partial blockages, deposits, internal tears and pop-corning defects that would otherwise go undetected, and leads to a red amber or green evaluation.

"Our hose testing engineers are expert in their fields, with a minimum of 15 years of experience," says Cox. "This means they can thoroughly test all hoses and, if the customer requires, can also investigate the cause of hose problems and provide solutions to prevent recurrence.

"They can also replace hoses, implement regular maintenance and repeat testing programmes, taking much of the burden from our customers."
