Grimsby workshop for Quartzelec’s LV and MV motor service 26 September 2013

Electrical engineering group Quartzelec is relocating to new workshops in Grimsby, which it says will help meet the growing requirement for electric motor and generator rewinds, repairs and services.

General manager Matt Brown says the site was previously operated by a competitor, but has lain empty for five months. It is now being refitted, he says, and should be fully operational by early October.

Brown says Quartzelec's workshop currently employing 13 staff, but that the firm is now looking to recruit additional technicians and engineers with motor and pump experience.

He also says that a key factor in the purchase of the new workshop are its two, 6.3 tonne overhead cranes, which mean Quartzelec can more easily work on larger electrical motors, up to 12.6 tonnes.

Other facilities include: a large burn-out oven and a bake off oven; an electronic winding machine; and vertical and horizontal head cutters.

"This is a fantastic addition to our property portfolio and will enable us to further expand the services we deliver to our growing customer base," comments Brown.

"Quartzelec continues to invest in the future of heavy electrical engineering in the Humber region and in the skilled people it needs to deliver our expanding order book," hew adds.

The firm claims to work on any OEM-manufactured equipment, including AEI, BTH, Metropolitan Vickers, GEC Machines, GEC Alsthom Large Machines, Alstom and Cegelec. It is also a stockist and service partner for WEG, Brook and ABB machines.
