FTIR gas analyser supports carbon capture research 26 June 2014

Viable CCS (carbon capture and storage) is now one step closer, following commissioning of a Quantitech Gasmet FTIR multi-parameter gas analyser at the UK Carbon Capture & Storage Research Centre facility, near Sheffield.

The pilot-scale advanced capture technology (PACT) facility was created to encourage and support both industrial and academic research, and FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) provides an essential analytical tool.

"FTIR gas analysis performs a vital role in our work with all carbon capture methods, enabling us to monitor CO2 in addition to almost any other gas from the Gasmet library of over 5,000 compounds," states PACT business development manager Dr Kris Milkowski, from the University of Leeds.

"The instrument was delivered with a sampling system and heated sample lines so that hot, wet and even corrosive gases can be measured," says Quantitech sales director Dominic Duggan.

"Dr Milkowski's work with the Gasmet DX4000 analyser has clearly demonstrated the suitability of multi-parameter FTIR for monitoring CCS plants," he adds.
