Edwards Engineering completes grain processing plant30 April 2020

Perth-based Edwards Engineering has completed a £1 million grain drying and processing plant for a process facility in Fife, Scotland.

The project, delivered on time and on budget, saw Edwards Engineering take on the challenge of designing, procuring and installing a fully bespoke unit, tailor-made to suit the available space at the farm storage facility.

Edwards worked with BDC Systems to design and install a SVEGMA continuous flow grain dryer, Skandia conveyors and elevators, a JKF dust filtration system along with the grain pre-cleaner and cleaner from Cimbria.

The 18-month project is said to have resulted in a plant that dries and processes crops with improved efficiency and to a higher specification.

Sandy Knight, agricultural manager at Edwards Engineering, says: “We worked closely with BDC Systems and Cimbria to develop the best possible design for the plant, providing the client with a state-of-the-art, modern processing facility. Our client is now able to offer the highest quality of grain, whilst adhering to the most stringent health and safety standards.

“Our design for the plant allows our client to dry crops at a higher throughput, making the whole process quicker, while high tech controls enable one-person operation for the whole plant, saving manpower.”

Knight adds: “As principal contractor, managing the process right through from design to installation, we were able to take a lot of the pressure off our clients. We managed multiple suppliers, negotiated with utility suppliers over electricity capacity upgrades and streamlined the design, procurement, installation, mechanical and engineering work, and after sales support, all under one roof.We also adapted our scope of work during the project to assist with the upgrade of the utilities.”
