BSI seeks input into asset management standards 12 December 2012

BSI is calling for input into the new ISO 55000 series of international standards aimed at promoting best-practices in plant maintenance and asset management.

The business standards company is working with international experts to review the way plants manage their assets, and says the goal is plant improvements, long-term profitability and better regulatory and legal performance.

The new standards – due for publication late 2013/early 2014 – will builds on the PAS 55 standard, which already provides a framework for organisations to optimise the cost, risk and performance efficiency of assets over their lifecycles.

"The launch of a new globally recognised standard in this field is an opportunity for organisations to scrutinise their activities to increase efficiency, better manage risks and deliver stakeholder value," states Shirley Bailey-Wood, BSI's director of publishing.

"We strongly encourage public review of the draft standard to ensure it delivers accordingly," she adds.

"Our panel of international experts have enabled us to capture new approaches and evolve previous work into an improved series of international standards, which will be a significant step forward," comments Rhys Davies, chair of the ISO 55000 committee.

"The public comment period is the opportunity for asset intensive organisations globally to provide their perspective on the standards prior to their publication."

Individuals or organisations interested in commenting may do so from now to 14 January 2013 via BSI's draft review system. See the link below.
