Atlas Copco boosts on-site nitrogen with NGP+ plant 20 May 2015

Atlas Copco’s new NGP+ on-site nitrogen generator has been designed to plug into existing compressed air networks to produce nitrogen of up to 99.999% purity.

The compressor specialist says that, when combined with its latest energy-efficient units, an on-site nitrogen installation can offer "significant benefits", compared with reliance on compressed nitrogen delivered in cylinders or bulk liquid supply.

Paul Clark, business line manager of Atlas Copco's Industrial Air division in the UK, exlains that on-site industrial gas generators offer a more sustainable and cost-efficient solution, and adds that it enables independent, reliable and flexible nitrogen supply.

"An on-site nitrogen installation with NGP+ will dramatically increase productivity and lower energy consumption," insists Clark.

"The NGP+ is our latest generation pressure swing adsorption generator and, when integrated into an energy-efficient compressed air network, it uses 50% less energy than the standard type of installations currently seen in the industry," he adds.

Clark also explains that the NGP+ works with PSA technology – carbon molecular sieves that adsorb oxygen molecules from compressed air.

By using sieves that are perfectly tuned to a compressed air network, the NGP+ adsorbs more oxygen for the same input of compressed air, he claims.

Its sensors and monitoring functions also ensure reliability, optimal performance and energy-efficiency.

Systems are available for flows from 1.6 to 172 l/s.
