Advantage Control is twelfth in ABB Drive Alliance 13 August 2010

Advantage Control of Northern Ireland has joined the ABB Drives Alliance, offering ABB variable speed drives all the way from 0.18kW to 400kW.

Based in Downpatrick, Advantage Control is now certified to offer lifecycle drive services, from energy appraisals and application advice, through to installation, start-up, operation and maintenance.

Sales director Alan Armstrong says that the firm also offers plant upgrade services and retrofit engineering, including recycling, and now runs a 24/7 breakdown service.

"Our customers come from wide and varied industries such as the agricultural sector, food and beverage, animal feed producers, plastic extrusions, quarries, and water authorities," he says.

As for specialisations, Advantage Control has expertise in converting plastic extruders and cable winding machinery from dc to ac drive control. The company also manufactures frequency converters using variable speed drives to convert 240V single-phase supplies to 415V three-phase up to 5.5kW.

This, says Armstrong, has proved popular with the rural farming industry, where the expense of running in a three-phase supply from the grid can be prohibitive.

"We also offer hire drives up to 600kW," says Armstrong, "for customers who have suffered a breakdown and need a drive quickly, or to prove the energy savings possible on an application on a try before you buy basis."
