ABS hosetails make the grade for yacht hydraulics 03 June 2010

Durapipe ABS hosetails have been specified by engineering company Phoenix Hydraulics, to replace brass equivalents on board a luxury yacht.

Phoenix, which manufactures hydraulic equipment for industrial, mobile, automotive and marine applications, was looking for a bespoke pipework fittings solution for the hoses that transport chilled water for air conditioning on one of its luxury yachts.

The engineering company turned to Durapipe UK, which produced a series of ABS flexible hosetails in sizes 20–40mm to fit the existing hoses, and handle limescale and corrosion and temperatures down to -40°C.

Ian Barraclough, head of sales at Phoenix Hydraulics, says that, since the hosetails are manufactured from a lightweight material, they are also easy to retrofit within the tight spaces of the yacht, significantly reducing installation time and costs.

"Durapipe ABS hosetails have proven to be a reliable alternative to the previous brass fittings we were used to working with," comments Barraclough. "The ease of installation, combined with the quality of the product, makes it a cost effective solution we are hoping to incorporate into future lines of luxury boats we are working on."
