SED Preview - The great outdoors04 April 2005

If you want to see construction plant and machinery demonstrated in as near as possible realistic working conditions, as opposed to simply static displays, Site Equipment Demonstration (SED) is the show for you. It has the largest assembly of plant, tools, equipment and accessories available in one place in the UK - making it the premier event for the industry.

The show began modestly in 1966 in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, with around 20 exhibitors. After a few years at Whipsnade Zoo from the mid-1980s, and further growth, the show moved in 1991 to its current home at Fen Farm in Milton Keynes - on a purpose built 80-acre showground. SED now boasts more than 470 exhibitors, from all areas of the industry, and last year it attracted a record 19,457 visitors, a 23% growth over five years. The ethos however is the same and SED remains a working construction exhibition with exciting demonstrations of the latest in construction plant and machinery.

The 2005 event takes place from 17 to 19 May, and visitors to the show are promised spectacular product launches of the most innovative kit in construction.

Once again, the show will comprise a number of zones:

- The Pavilion Entrance offers a selection of smaller and more specialist suppliers, under cover from the elements. On display here will be equipment such as power tools, instrumentation and computer hardware, along with product and service offerings from the IT, financial services, trade association and merchandising sectors. Exhibitors here who can help with maintenance and keeping machinery downtime to a minimum including Air-Seal Product, Argos-Hytos, Centa Transmissions, Ecolube, Gates Hydraulics, new exhibitor The Hydraulics Centre, Interlube Systems, MSP Distributors and Shell Lubricants.

- The Site Equipment Zone - very much the core of SED, this has over 200 exhibitors booked at the time of writing. As well as the traditional 'muck shifters' that are the essence of SED for many visitors, it will also be displaying all kinds of ancillary equipment including temporary buildings, pneumatic equipment, heavy haulage trailers and much more.

- The Truck Zone - now in its fourth year, there's no better place to visit to see a wide range of trucks, trailers, vans, 4x4 vehicles and bodies. The live demo areas provide visitors with the opportunity to see the vehicles in action.

- The Cranes and Access Village - where you can see kit both on static display and in action from some of the major manufacturers of lifting equipment, powered access, scaffolding and support gear.

- The Site Clearance Zone - the place to go to see the latest crushers, hammers, pulverisers and screens, and also chippers, shredders and other green waste kit.

- The Concrete Show - the only UK event exclusively devoted to concrete, there will be over 70 stands showing everything essential to its production, placement, repair and demolition.

By registering in advance for 'fast track' entry tickets, visitors can avoid queuing on arrival. To pre-register online, or to find out more about the show, visit www.sed.co.uk
