Main event packs a punch23 February 2015

Last year’s Maintec broke records, attracting more than 3,670 visitors. On its return to the NEC, Birmingham on 24–26 March 2015, it will be even bigger thanks to its co-location with other shows including the Health and Safety Event

Maintec 2015 is a three-day event designed to attract decision-makers and buyers in the UK's maintenance, plant and asset management community.

As well as a showcase for products and services, it will also offer a programme of seminars called 'The Exchange'. Running alongside this will be the 'Business Strategy Forum' which will feature free seminars and panel debates delivered by experts from major organisations within the industry. 'Lions' Lair', meanwhile, will show a selection of brave exhibitors pitching their latest innovations and concepts to a panel of experts, hoping to win best in show.

Among the exhibitors at Maintec 2015 will be RMS Reliability, which will present its web-based learning series, iLearnReliability, designed to help industrial plants establish sustainable reliability improvement programmes.

eMaint, meanwhile, will showcase eMaint MX Mobile, a wireless version of its computerised maintenance management software. Designed to run on smartphones, tablets, or other browser-based devices, eMaint MX is said to reduce the need for paperwork.

Acutest will display its HT MacroTest G3 multifunction meter to carry out safety tests on industrial electric systems, and the cable detection EZiTEX t100 signal transmitter plus the FLIR E8 thermal imaging camera.

Ashcom Technology will showcase its MaintiMizer BlackBox, an all-in-one CMMS/EAM solution "created for businesses with small or non-existent IT departments". Also on display will be the MaintiMizer Web Edition and its software as a service, MaintiMizer.com.
CEJN will exhibit the MultiFLOW air and fluid gun, which cleans surfaces with air or water, plus its eSafe coupling series, and hose and cable reels.

Finally, Crimson Industrial Vision will highlight remote visual inspection systems and thermal imaging cameras, and SGS Baseefa will present its certification services and training materials.

Excellent networking opportunity
The Health and Safety Event, meanwhile, will provide visitors with an educational programme, the opportunity to meet industry organisations plus the chance to network with other professionals.

The conference programme is set to cover the latest risk and safety issues. For example, Emma Cundiff's seminar, 'Developing a risk management programme', will attempt to build a bridge between enterprise risk management and occupational safety and health. She believes that the skills used in these disciplines are similar, so "the two worlds have synergies that it is advantageous to explore".

Another seminar – 'An Introduction to Psychosocial Risks' – will be presented by Dr Gayle Brewer, senior lecturer in psychology at the University of Central Lancashire, and will look at the psychosocial risks that are slowly becoming recognised as key occupational health challenges.

As well as supporting the conference programme, the IIRSM and the BOHS will provide panellists for 'Safety Dialogue', a roundtable discussion involving a live panel at which experts discuss the latest issues and open up the floor to questions from the audience.

Other free educational activities include practical seminars from the event's partners and the newly introduced 'Safer Logistics Seminar Theatre' and 'Feature Area', which promises visitors education and advice tackling safety hot spots in warehousing and logistics.

The 'Safer Logistics Seminar Theatre' and 'Feature Area' is sponsored by Toyota, and supported by partners such as the Fork Lift Truck Association, the United Kingdom Warehousing Association and the Food Storage and Distribution Federation.

As well as the educational content of the event, the major attraction is a substantial exhibition where the biggest names in health and safety are situated. Core areas are well covered at the exhibition, with personal protection equipment (PPE) represented by such names as 3M offering an extensive portfolio of PPE ranging from head, eye, face and hearing protection through to disposable coveralls and the latest in respiratory protection, and Bollé Safety, which manufactures protective eyewear.
