Thorite celebrates 50 year milestone 08 September 2010

Bradford-based compressed air, vacuum and process products distributor Thorite has reached the 50 year milestone.

Teddy Wright, the father of current managing director Stephen, is now 79, but back in 1960 he opened Thorite Pneumatics in West Street, Leeds, for the sale and repair of compressed air products.

The Leeds company's success led directly to the opening of Thorite Sales and Service Centres in Blackburn, Bolton, Doncaster, Huddersfield, Leeds, Rochdale and Sheffield. Then the Bradford head office expanded to stocking compressed air products, culminating in the purchase of Hogg Pneumatic Solutions in North Shields in 2006.

Thorite now employs 97 staff, and each centre provides compressors, compressed air servicing, compressed air products, process valves, hose and fittings, stocks of fast moving lines and system design services. Thorite's National Distribution Centre holds in excess of £1.5million of backup stock.

"For many UK companies, compressed air now represents the second or third highest utility cost in their plants, with 10% of all energy consumption being utilised in its generation," comments Stephen Wright. "I am very fortunate to have forebears who have each possessed the ability to spot opportunities in the market for the supply of high quality products and services."
