Sulzer deploys AI solution at two solar plants26 February 2020

Sulzer is collaborating with Atlantica, a global player in sustainable infrastructure, to install its BLUE BOX advanced analytics solution on performance-critical pumps at two solar power plants.

Located 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles, US, the Mojave 280 MW solar plant generates clean electricity to power approximately 90,000 households, while KaXu Solar One in South Africa has a capacity of 100 MW.

Sulzer’s BLUE BOX advanced analytics solution on the boiler feedwater and heat transfer fluid pumps will look to strengthen Atlantica’s own anomaly detection capabilities, while also increasing uptime, improving reliability and eliminating operational risks at the energy plants.

The latest version of BLUE BOX is said to be capable of enhancing operational performance of pumping systems in both the short- and long-term. This includes the automated flagging of anomalous operations and estimated remaining lifetimes, as well as pro-active recommendations by Sulzer experts, ultimately aiming for more targeted maintenance.

The new BLUE BOX version makes use of artificial intelligence and combines statistical with physical models. By analysing real-time and historical operational data, it is said that Sulzer’s pump experts will proactively support Atlantica to make better-informed business decisions.

After successful completion, Atlantica will look to implement Sulzer’s cloud-based technology in all of its assets worldwide.
